MMOEXP: Understanding the Mechanics of Storm Charge in PoE 2

About

Path of Exile 2 continues the deep customization and intricate itemization mechanics of POE2 Currency its predecessor. Among the many systems players can interact with, the Arcane system provides powerful passive bonuses to equipment, especially amulets, without the need for traditional crafting methods such as orbs or crafting tables.

One particularly popular Arcane is Storm Charge, a powerful passive ability that only works when a specific material called Refine Emotion is infused into an amulet.

Adding Storm Charge to an amulet allows you to enjoy this powerful effect without having to allocate passive skill points in the skill tree. This makes it a very valuable upgrade, especially for optimized end-game builds.

In Path of Exile 2, amulets can be Empowered through a special crafting process involving Refine Emotion, a new crafting item introduced in the game's Delirium expansion. To cast Storm Charge, you need the following three Refined Emotions, in a specific order: Refined Fear, Refined Horror, Refined Envy.

The order is crucial. Mixing these items together can result in different passive skills or infusion failures if ordered incorrectly. Always double-check placement before performing an infusion.

There are two main ways to obtain the refined emotions needed for Storm Charge: combat or trading.

1. Random drops in Ultimate Delirium maps

The most direct way to obtain refined fear, panic, and envy is to participate in Ultimate Delirium maps, a type of ultimate content that is both rewarding and challenging. These maps are filled with Delirium enemies - shadowy, unpredictable foes that get more difficult the longer you stay in the mist of Delirium.

Refined emotions are rare drops from these enemies and are not always available. The deeper you explore the Delirium, the more rewards you trigger, and the higher your chances of finding the right Distilled Emotion. Consider using mechanics that increase the number and rarity of items (such as scarabs, sextants, and map modifiers) to increase the drop rate.

2. Buy on the Currency Exchange (via Alva)

If you don't like grinding the Delirium map, or you're unlucky with item drops, you can use the Currency Exchange to buy "Distilled Emotions". To do this, talk to Alva in the Hideout. She now provides a trading interface where players can exchange excess resources or currency for "Distilled Emotions".

Prices may change based on supply and demand, so check back often and trade wisely. This method is a solid alternative to grinding monsters, especially if you have idle currency items or materials for other mechanics such as invasions or looting.

Once you have collected Distilled Fear, Distilled Terror, and Distilled Envy, you can infuse emotions. Please follow the steps below carefully:

Prepare Items

Make sure all three Distilled Emotions are in your inventory, as well as the Amulet you want to infuse.

Right-click a Distilled Emotion

Right-click any Distilled Emotion. This will open the "Infuse" window, a crafting interface specifically for infusing emotions through Distilled Emotions.

Insert the amulet and emotions in the correct order

Place the amulet in the top slot of the infusion window.

Then, insert the following from left to right in the row below it:

Distilled Fear (first slot)

Distilled Terror (second slot)

Distilled Envy (third slot)

Once all items are placed correctly, you should see "Storm Charge" in the text box at the bottom of the window. If the text is different or empty, recheck the order of the distilled emotions.

Confirm the infusion by clicking the "Infuse" button. The distilled emotions will be consumed and your amulet will be permanently empowered with Storm Charge.

Now, whenever you equip that amulet, the effect of Storm Charge will automatically be applied to your character. No need to activate it again.

Once an amulet has been empowered with Distilled Emotion, it cannot be changed unless you use a special crafting item or merchant recipe (if available in a future patch). Choose your amulet carefully.

If you are pressed for time, consider checking out the MMOexp trading platform or the official PoE 2 trading website. Other players often sell specific Distilled Emotions in single or set items for a reasonable price.

Storm Charge is a valuable oil - make sure the amulet you apply it to has a good base and powerful affixes. Ideally, it should be able to supplement your attributes, such as health, critical strike chance, elemental resistance, or increase elemental damage.

In Path of Exile 2, applying Storm Charge to amulets is a POE 2 Currency rewarding process that requires some planning and patience. Whether you prefer to grind monsters in Delirium for drops or trade with Alva on the currency exchange, obtaining the required Distilled Emotions - Fear, Panic, and Envy - is an important first step.
